Carl is a dynamic speaker devoted to sharing God’s truth with people right where they are. He is the Founder and President of Reasons for Hope, Inc. Come hear Carl share his heart in two talks at Oak Hill Chapel!

About the Speaker

Carl Kerby grew up in a liberal church that taught that evolution could be mixed with God’s Word. In 1987 Carl Kerby became a Christian after attending a crusade in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Carl was an air traffic controller in the military in the late 1980’s. After riding in the cockpit on a flight to see his father, the creation vs. evolution issue came up during a conversation with the pilots. The co-pilot merely showed him from the Bible that evolution was a totally different worldview that could not be in harmony with the Scripture. He introduced Carl to Ken Ham’s book The Lie: Evolution. After reading it,Carl’s faith was totally changed. He learned that from the very first book, God’s Word stands true.

Carl has been an air traffic controller at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, one of the busiest airports in the world.

Carl has a particular burden to reach the people of Japan. Carl met his wife when he was an air traffic controller in Japan during the early 1980s.

Carl’s passion is to proclaim the authority and accuracy of the Bible and to engage the minds and hearts of believers and unbelievers in todays’ culture so that they may experience the realities the Word of God. This happens every time Carl speaks. Whether he speaks to youth or adult, large or small crowds, churches or schools, Carl has a way of connecting with almost everybody; that is one of the reasons Carl was one of Answers in Genesis‘ most dynamic and sought-after speakers.

Carl was a founding Board Member of Answers in Genesis for 10 years and served there for over 15 years before stepping out in faith to become President and Founder of Reasons for Hope, Inc. Though Carl has played many roles in his life (son of a professional wrestler, air-traffic controller at O’Hare Intl. Airport, and widely known speaker for Answers in Genesis), his most cherished accomplishment is his marriage to his wife, Masami, for over 28 years, and his role as a father to his daughter, Alisa, and his son, Carl, Jr., and grandfather to his grandchildren, Trey, Naomi Joy and Mari Hayashida.

10:30AM – Does Genesis Matter?

If we want to reach the world today with the Gospel, we’re going to have as many tools at our disposal as possible. One tool that every one of us can use is conversation! In this talk, Carl uses clips from a popular TV program from Showtime featuring the entertainers Penn and Teller attacking Christianity and the Bible. Carl shows how, and how NOT, to answer the attacks leveled against Christians. Carl shows the “power of conversation” firsthand. This presentation will help and challenge audiences to be both real and relevant as they learn to talk with, not at, people in order to impact the culture.

Building Projects
Yes, it has been building year before, but this was another major push. Thank you for your prayers that our LORD would guide, guard, and direct the placement of every nail, board, light, and wire! The foundation was built seven years ago. We have experienced many trials during those years: building tools and supplies have been stolen, a new ceiling and roof had to be designed and built, funds had to be raised, people left and people came, people died, and people were born. God has been so gracious to us in providing mighty men to work on the building! The porch railing was installed in September and the ceiling in the upper story was begun. Amazing how things change, yet by trusting the Heavenly Father it has been a faith builder for all involved. God is good and He loves us. This we know. We PRAISE His Mighty Name!

November – December 2009

A huge thanks to those who joined us as we prepared fruit baskets and goodies for our neighbors! We sent a goodie box to missionaries Jana and Joni Houser in India, sisters who are ministering to 10,000 unreached villages in the mountains of northeastern India.

Are Our Kids Already Gone?
Answers in Genesis discusses the results of a study showing the huge disconnect between the questions children are asking and what churches are teaching. Traditional programs and approaches are failing. We are losing our kids long before college. The film Already Gone reveals what’s wrong, what’s missing, and what must change before we lose another generation! For more information check out the Answers in Genesis website.

Mission Trip Report
Joel Leitner (Hazel Aldridge and Mary Otte’s nephew from Ohio) shared his experiences this summer in Kenya and Uganda with Athletes in Action. What a joy to hear this young man share how God taught him to appreciate his blessings! The team held daily devotions and saw much fruit from their trip. They helped build a bathroom for a school in Nairobi and taught basketball clinics to coaches who traveled great distances to meet with them.
